Epic: buying a Fortnite account for Pirate Shop Access is a scam
Fortnite Status, Nov 3: “Buying an account or using fake tools is a scam.” The token is a Battle Royale chest drop. Epic did not print odds. The Oct 30 Treasure Hunters post never named it.

Fortnite Status replied on X November 3 at 11:55 p.m. The line, as VICE and Beebom reprint it: “Buying an account or using fake tools is a scam. This is just like any of the chests in Battle Royale, so every player has an equal opportunity to find Pirate Shop Access.” That is the official news. Epic still has no dedicated Pirate Shop article on fortnite.com. The October 30 Treasure Hunters post already on this desk does not name the token.
What Epic put on the record
The Status account was answering a post about paid carries, AFK tools, and accounts listed for sale. Beebom’s November 4 writeup puts that listing price at “up to $10,000.” Epic’s reply does not print a dollar figure and does not print a drop rate. It compares Pirate Shop Access to “any of the chests in Battle Royale.” VICE’s Brent Koepp, November 4, 10:23 a.m., reads that as Epic shutting down the idea that some accounts are favored. This desk is not adding odds Epic did not publish. Community figures circulating as 1 in 700,000 or 0.1 percent are not on that tweet, so they stay off this page.
How outlets describe the token, with Epic silent on the post
- Beebom’s November 2 guide: a rare Treasure Hunt Chest reward on Crossbones Isle. One find in a party is shared with the squad. Activate from the Item Shop under “Plunder the Item Shop.” Eligible V-Bucks shop cosmetics are free for 14 days after you hit Activate Now. Real-money offers, gifting, pass levels, and Sidekicks you already own are out. Tokens are not transferable.
- IGN’s wiki, updated November 1: two activations — one usable November 1 through December 15, 2026, and another in 2027. Beebom’s guide prints the second window as January 1 through December 15, 2027. Those dates are from in-game copy those outlets checked, not from Epic’s news post.
- VICE notes a later-this-season “Power Hour” claim from dataminer HYPEX. VICE’s own sentence: Epic has not announced a schedule or a boosted rate. That stays a leak, not a clock.
If the in-game banner on your account disagrees with a guide’s December 15 line, the banner wins. Epic did not put a drop percentage or a guaranteed POI on fortnite.com. Buying someone else’s account still breaks Epic’s rules even if a marketplace listing is real. No shopping links.
