The Elder Scrolls VI is Sentinel — Bethesda named it on its 40th anniversary

Xbox Wire dated the studio’s 40th anniversary post November 3 and filed it under The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The page is the official stamp for a Todd Howard video, not a spec sheet. IGN, Polygon, PC Gamer, and GameSpot all watched the same clip: Bethesda finally prints a subtitle eight years after the 2018 teaser. No release date. No platforms. No gameplay.

You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.— Todd Howard, via PC Gamer’s transcript of the 40th anniversary video, Nov 3

What Bethesda printed after the logo

Bethesda Game Studios followed the video on X: “Thank you for 40 years of shared memories. We can’t wait to make even more together with The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.” The next line is the timing: “Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.” GameSpot repeats that “some time” line and says not to read this as the start of a marketing campaign. This desk is not inventing a window from that sentence.

What the teaser actually puts on screen

  • The title card: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. IGN and PC Gamer both call the logo the news. Polygon dates the writeup November 3, 10:22 a.m. ET.
  • A short sand shot before the logo. Polygon: a scroll buried under a dune. PC Gamer: a sandy backdrop and a jewelled object under the sand, shown and then gone. That is what those outlets describe, not a shot list from this desk.
  • The quote after the logo, as Polygon, PC Gamer, and GameSpot print it: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” Attribution on screen: Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206).

Polygon reads 4E 206 as five years after Skyrim. PC Gamer cites UESP for the same offset. Those are lore clocks, not a Bethesda street date. Bethesda’s own X post is the location line: it says they revealed “the name and location.” The on-screen speaker is a Hammerfell moth priest. GameSpot treats that, plus Bethesda’s “location” wording, as Hammerfell. A Tom Warren Verge report from last week had already pointed at Hammerfell; this page is using Bethesda’s post and the teaser credit, not that rumor, as the check.

Howard’s same PC Gamer stretch also names Fallout as something the studio is looking forward to. That is a franchise mention in an anniversary speech, not a Fallout 5 date. IGN notes Skyrim is still Bethesda Game Studios’ most-played game by lifetime players, a figure IGN says it clarified with Bethesda. None of those lines are a platform list. IGN even flags PlayStation as unannounced.
