Sword of the Sea is out today on Switch 2 — Xbox Series is on Gematsu’s same-day list

Nintendo’s Indie World recap pins Giant Squid’s Hoversword adventure to Switch 2 on October 29. Gematsu, same announcement, adds Xbox Series. PS5 and PC have been out since August 19, 2025.

Thursday is the Switch 2 street date Nintendo printed yesterday. The official Indie World recap, reprinted by Nintendo Everything: Sword of the Sea, from Fictions and Giant Squid, “launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 29.” This desk already listed that row in the showcase recap. It did not get its own page. Xbox was not on Nintendo’s list.

Two lists, one day

Gematsu, October 28: publisher Fictions and developer Giant Squid “will release” the game for Xbox Series and Switch 2 on October 29. IGN’s trailer page for the same drop is titled as an Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 trailer and dates both SKUs October 29. Fictions posted a “New Platforms Trailer” that Gematsu embeds. We are holding Nintendo for Switch 2. We are holding Gematsu and that trailer for Xbox Series. Nintendo’s recap does not mention Xbox.

The original launch is not today. Gematsu: PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on August 19, 2025. This is a console pass, not a first release.

What Nintendo’s recap actually says

Official copy: surf across waves of sand and glistening waters; ride the magical Hoversword across deserts, glaciers, and shimmering seas; explore the Necropolis and restore a lost ocean; build speed, catch waves, perform tricks. Giant Squid is the studio behind ABZÛ and The Pathless. That is the Nintendo-platform line. Store-page feature bullets on Gematsu add Matt Nava as creative director and Austin Wintory on music, and describe the Hoversword as snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard in one. Those bullets are Gematsu quoting store pages, not Nintendo’s recap.
