Rockstar UK staff will vote on union recognition during GTA 6 launch week

IWGB says the ballot runs November 12–26. GTA 6 is November 19. A yes vote, the union says, would be the biggest recognised UK games-sector union. The October 2025 firings tribunal is a separate clock.

The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain emailed a press release on October 27. The Verge, IGN, and PC Gamer all file the same window: UK Rockstar staff vote on union recognition from November 12 through November 26. Grand Theft Auto VI is still November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The ballot brackets launch week. PC Gamer says Rockstar has not commented on this vote.

What a yes vote is supposed to cover

IGN and PC Gamer both say the terms of a recognition deal have been under negotiation with management since July. The printed topics: pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working arrangements, and generative AI policies. IWGB’s line, via The Verge: if staff vote in favor, “the Rockstar Game Workers Union will become the biggest recognised union in the UK games sector.” That is the union’s claim, conditional on the ballot. No outlet we checked printed a headcount, a turnout rule, or draft contract numbers.

What the union and the company have said

This November, we have the chance to make gaming history not once but twice. As all our hard work, skill and creativity are experienced by GTA 6 players for the first time, our voices will now be heard for the first time too.— Shanti Easton-Steel, Rockstar Game Workers Union committee member, via IGN

Easton-Steel, via IGN, also named the gender pay gap, “uneven and ever-changing policies on overtime pay,” and “job security post-release” as issues the vote is supposed to put on the table. IWGB president Alex Marshall, via IGN, called the vote “just as historic as the game release.”

Rockstar head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe, speaking to Bloomberg and quoted by IGN and PC Gamer: “We go where the team goes. So if they want a union, they will have a union.” That is not a statement on this November ballot. PC Gamer is the desk that says the studio has not commented on the vote itself.

The tribunal is a different clock

Almost a year ago, Rockstar fired 31 workers. IWGB called it union busting. Rockstar’s position, as IGN and PC Gamer file it, is gross misconduct over alleged leaks of company secrets. That employment tribunal is still running. IGN dates closing submissions November 17–18 — inside the ballot window, two days before launch. This page does not pick a side. It is not a ruling, and it is not a delay to November 19. No outlet we checked tied the vote to a strike or a ship-date change.
