Sega is pulling Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition off storefronts

Two days after the remaster shipped, Creative Assembly and Sega say it fell short. The 2011 game is going back on sale. Owners keep their copies. No fix date.

Sega and Creative Assembly are taking Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition off sale. IGN dates the remaster’s PC launch to October 13. Two days later, on October 15, CA posted a joint statement with Sega: the Complete Edition “has fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards,” and they are working with platform holders to remove it from sale and reinstate the original 2011 game while they investigate. Existing owners “will still be able to access and play the game.”

We are working closely with our development partner to identify the causes of these problems, deliver improvements, and ensure Shogun 2 – Complete Edition meets the quality standards players expect from Total War.— Creative Assembly / Sega, October 15, 2026

What players flagged

IGN and The Verge both describe an Overwhelmingly Negative Steam user rating. Players complained about bugs and artwork that looks distorted; some alleged AI upscaling. Sega and Creative Assembly have not addressed that allegation in the statement, and they did not give a date for a fix.

IGN reports the remaster was priced at $40, with a $10 upgrade path, after Sega had pulled the original — which often sold for a few dollars — so new buyers had to take the Complete Edition. Those prices are IGN’s reporting, not a store check by this desk.

Where it actually is

Creative Assembly’s post is written in the present tense: they are working with platform holders to remove the game. The Verge says the Steam page has already been pulled. IGN’s piece is also framed as a pull from Steam. We are not claiming a GOG, Epic, or Microsoft Store status we have not checked.
